I am a fully qualified and accredited therapist with over
17 years’ experience helping English-speaking adults overcome psychological and
behavioural difficulties and create meaningful change in their lives.
The therapy I offer is the Conscious Mind Empowerment
Method (CMEM). CMEM is an evidence-informed approach to psychological and
behavioural change that brings together established principles from Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassion Focused
Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
I work with individuals experiencing difficulties including
anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, self-criticism, overthinking,
avoidance and other patterns that can leave people feeling stuck. Sessions are
available online to English-speaking clients internationally.
About Me
I began working as a therapist in 2009 and have since worked with hundreds of
clients across the UK, France and internationally. I am an accredited member of
the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of
the Association Française de Thérapie Comportementale et Cognitive (AFTCC). My
therapeutic work is conducted in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework.
Over the course of my work, I developed the Conscious Mind Empowerment
Method to address something I repeatedly saw in therapy: understanding what
needs to change does not always make it easier to change it. That is why CMEM
focuses on both knowledge and action.
How the Conscious Mind Empowerment Method Works
At the heart of CMEM is a simple idea: psychological and behavioural change has
two phases — knowledge and action. The knowledge phase is about gaining clarity
about the person you want to be, understanding the internal barriers to change,
and developing the practical skills for change. The action phase is about
putting that knowledge into practice, especially in the moments when pressure,
self-doubt or difficult emotions get in the way. CMEM works through three
stages.
- Set CLEAR Goals
We begin by clarifying what you want to achieve through therapy. This goes
beyond simply asking what you want to stop feeling. We explore how you would
like your life to be different, the person you want to be, and how you would
like to respond when difficult situations arise. These become your CLEAR
Goals and provide a direction for the work we do together.
- Understand Internal Barriers
We then explore what may be getting in the way. CMEM uses the Two-Minds
Framework to distinguish between two different ways in which our mind can
influence how we respond. The Rooted Mind contains learned, instinctive and
protective responses shaped by our upbringing, genetics, culture, evolution
and trauma. The Conscious Mind represents our capacity to respond with
wisdom, kindness, values, logic and courage. The difficulty arises when
thoughts, feelings or urges from the Rooted Mind influence us to respond in
ways that do not reflect the person we want to be. Therapy helps you
recognise these patterns and develop the skills to allow your Conscious Mind
to guide how you respond.
- Apply the 4-Step Change Process
Once we understand what is happening, we begin turning that knowledge into
action through CMEM’s 4-Step Change Process.
Focus Reset
Learning to shift your attention away from the pull of the Rooted Mind and
create the space for your Conscious Mind to guide what you do next.
Self-Compassion
Learning to respond to yourself with kindness and understanding,
particularly when you are struggling, making mistakes or trying to change
established patterns.
Reframing
Developing a different relationship with difficult thoughts and learning to
consider situations from perspectives that are more workable, balanced and
consistent with your Conscious Mind.
Mindful Valued Living
Putting what you have learned into practice by taking actions that reflect
your values and the person you want to be, even when difficult thoughts or
feelings are present. The aim of CMEM is not simply to help you understand
yourself better. It is to help you turn knowledge into action, so that when
life becomes difficult, you are increasingly able to respond as the person
you want to be.
Taking the First Step
I offer a free introductory call where we can briefly discuss what has
brought you to therapy, what you would like to change, and whether working
together feels like the right fit. There is no obligation to continue
afterwards, and you are welcome to ask any questions you have about therapy
or the Conscious Mind Empowerment Method.
